VVA offers the Commonwealth Dual Enrollment Pathways Program to students in grades 11 and 12 throughout the state in partnership with Tidewater Community College (TCC). Students enrolled in the program have access to high-quality teachers, instruction, and resources while earning dual enrollment college credit or a work-ready cybersecurity certification.
Depending on their grade level, students have the opportunity to complete the following before graduating from high school:
Program | Time Requirement | Grade Level(s) |
---|---|---|
Career Studies Certificate in Cybersecurity and Network Foundations | 1 year if starting in grade 12; 2 years if starting in grade 11 | Grades 11 or 12 |
VCCS Uniform Certificate of General Studies (UCGS) | 2 years | Grades 11 and 12 (must begin in grade 11) |
VCCS Passport | 1 year | Grade 12 |
The program is available statewide to students in grades 11 and 12, providing opportunities for students in areas that may have been traditionally underserved or underrepresented. Students with or without existing dual enrollment coursework or credits are eligible to participate in any of the three tracks in the Commonwealth Dual Enrollment Pathways Program.
Students enrolled in the pilot program will have access to VVA dual enrollment (DE) teachers and complete their coursework online in both synchronous and asynchronous settings. VVA DE teachers will hold regular sessions with students and are available for 1:1 and small-group instruction, as well as time to meet with students, parents, and other support staff at each student’s enrolling school.
2024–2025 Enrollment Fee/TuitionEnrollment in each dual enrollment course requires payment of both the appropriate VVA enrollment fee and TCC tuition.
This Career Studies Certificate introduces students to information technology concepts and skills so they are prepared to recognize, prevent and defend against threats to information and information systems. Students will also explore topics such as operating systems, computer hardware, networking concepts, and programming.
