Why Does California Require Pay Data Reporting?

Achieving pay equity benefits both families and the economy as a whole. But the gender pay gap has persisted despite efforts to combat it: In 2016, women in California working full time made a median of 88 cents for every dollar that men earned. And this disparity is even greater for women of color.
